As the end of this
school year rapidly approaches, the Allen School calendar is filled
with many special events for our students and their families! I
encourage you to continue to check your calendars, Thursday packets
and e-mails; Allen School is a very busy place!
I would like
to begin by acknowledging just a few of the fine efforts of our
Allen School students and staff. Our Chorus Concert, under
the direction of Mrs. Gontowicz, and the Art Show, under the
direction of Mrs. Maguire, showcased our students’ many artistic
talents! Our fourth graders held their annual Mothers’ Day Tea,
students honored their mothers with their original poetry; there was
not a dry eye in the house. The New Jersey ASK testing and make-ups
are now officially completed for students in third, fourth and fifth
grades. We appreciate everyone’s support, hard-work and cooperation
during testing time.
Sydney Harris,
a fifth grader at Allen School, was recently recognized by The
Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety and Education as an Outstanding
School Safety Patrol. Their selection criteria includes leadership,
dependability, academics, promptness, neatness and industriousness.
Sydney competed with Patrols from the entire Mid-Atlantic area and
was recognized at a luncheon in her honor at Mastoris’ Restaurant on
May 19th. We certainly know how conscientious Sydney is!
We are all thrilled that she was selected and are so proud of her!
To add to her list of accomplishments Sydney recently won first
place in the 10-12 years old category in The Medford Cultural Arts
Commission’s Children’s Digital Photography Contest. Her award
winning photograph will be on display at the Medford Arts Center in
June and she will be honored at a reception on June 4th
at the Medford Arts Center. Cody Rommeihs joins her as the
second place winner in the same age category. His work will also be
on display at the arts center so stop by and see our budding
photographers’ work!
In addition, we are
proud to share that Alexandria Rosania, one of our fourth
grade Allen School students, won first prize in the Burlington
County Law Day Poster Contest! Her entry was selected by a special
committee of Judiciary Judges and her artwork depicted the topic,
Milestones in the Law: People and Events That Have Made an Impact on
the Laws of Our Country. Alexandria’s Award Ceremony will be held on
June 3rd at the Olde Historic Courthouse in Mt. Holly.
Our Volunteer Tea is set for
May 26th in our Media Center. We are very appreciative of
the time and dedication all of our volunteers demonstrate. Room
Parents, our Hospitality Committee under the direction of Jill
Borsky and Sue Minshall, Our Volunteer Coordinator Michelle Taylor,
our Home and School Representatives; Karen Rees, Donna Fields, Pam
Higgins and Jill Bialous, Book Fair Coordinators; Karin Wetterau and
Donna Fields, we thank you all. We could not provide our Recess
Running Program, the Art in Action program, classroom parties and
events, a well run Media Center, the list goes on and on, without
your help. Our Volunteer Tea is our way of honoring all of our
volunteers and it provides us with the opportunity to say thank you.
Your support, your time, and your commitment to our students are all
deeply appreciated by the entire Allen School family. If you have
not been involved, we welcome your involvement next year. There are
many jobs, big and small, to fit your schedule.
Our fifth graders will continue
with their orientation to the Haines Sixth Grade Center with their
visitation day on June 3rd. The fifth grade parents are busy
preparing for all of the 5th grade end of the year
celebrations and activities. The Fifth Grade Dance will be held on
June 3rd, and the Fifth Grade Picnic is scheduled for June 11th.
Fifth grade students also have the STRONG (formerly known as DARE)
Picnic to look forward to on June 4th.
We are proud of our fifth graders and all they have
accomplished this year! They have faced an incredibly difficult
emotional challenge and honored their teacher’s passing in such a
respectful and thoughtful way, exhibiting such fine character. They
have been wonderful role models and excellent student leaders in our
building. The fifth graders are certainly prepared and ready for the
next step in their school careers and we are confident they will
thrive and love The Haines Sixth Grade Center. Our staff is
experiencing some twinges of sadness, realizing that time just moves
too quickly. We will truly miss our fifth graders; we certainly wish
them all the best and hope that they will always look back fondly on
their days at Allen School.
Kindergarten
Round-Up will be held on June 3rd. It is always
especially exciting to welcome our newest alligators to Allen
School! Field Day is scheduled for May 28th, and our Band
Concert is schedule for both day and evening performances on
June 2nd. Our Second Grade Play and the First
Grade Portfolio Evening are scheduled for June 10th,
and the Allen School Variety Show will be held on June 17th
and 18th, times to be announced.
We congratulate and extend our best
wishes to Mrs. Debbie Brown, a much loved and respected
second grade teacher, who will be retiring at the end of this school
year. We wish her much happiness, good health and a well deserved
rest. We thank Mrs. Brown for her many years of service to the
children and families of Allen School and wish her all the best in
this new exciting chapter of her life!
On a personal note I would like to
share how wonderful it is to be back at Allen School! I would like
to express my appreciation to everyone for all of your well wishes
and acts of kindness. Allen School is truly a joyful place, filled
with learning, fun, and wonder! The Allen School staff is dedicated
and professional. They work so hard and always have your children’s
best interest at heart. Your children are absolutely phenomenal,
they make us smile, warm our hearts, and amaze us each and every
day. Allen School is truly a family: students, staff, and parents.
Together we enjoyed another incredible year at Allen School!
